Machine Head is a San Francisco Bay Area metal band that has been around since the 90s. They also just happen to be one of the biggest most successful metal bands of the past 20 years, putting out multiple highly acclaimed metal albums.

When I was contacted to design the cover to their newest live album I of course quickly agreed. Upon hanging up the phone I then listened to “The More Things Change” to have the memories of being 19 wash over me again. Then I high-fived my 19 year old self and got to work.

It doesn’t look like much but a lot of work went into this. The original image was just Rob and fire. I had to drop in all the band members, add on a bass headstock, color correct everyone together, and blend them to look seamless. Then it was round after round of logo/type treatments. It was also done over a weekend.

I’ll be posting a process journal over at my Behance profile - www.behance.net/jamesdeanbooth - so be sure to check that out for the ENTIRE giant rundown.

I also added a few “in the wild” shots here: a shot of the CD at the merch table, a pic at the show of the promotional poster for the tour, an adaptation of the design to a flier, and the adaption that was done for their website (www.machinehead1.com).

This was a great project to work on and Rob and the boys in MH are top notch dudes.

Robert is an accomplished actor/director/coach and lecturer. His work spans from acting in film and theatre, to stage direction (Regional and Off-Broadway), to classroom lectures in such prestigious universities as Penn State.

Robert needed a new website that was vibrant and young but classic and neutral enough to showcase the differing styles of direction he is known for. This provided some great chances to grow his brand and use some vibrant color that’s anchored by classic textures and Futura inspired fonts.

Here’s some of the stuff I used to make this whole site happen:
Photoshop, Dreamweaver, HTML and CSS (by hand mind you, I used Dreamweaver to help close up tags and a basic visual overview), jQuery (Lightbox2Dynamic Drive’s FadeInSlideshow and Lazyloadplugins), Google Web Fonts, and custom CSS for IE (yes I feel compelled to call this out as you all know how IE likes to handle things differently and solving those problems is important, and I did them).

JBooth Specialties is a custom carpentry company serving the Casper Wyoming area. They needed a simple, clean, and easy to navigate site to showcase their work in both residential and commercial settings. So that is exactly what I delivered.

HTML/CSS/Javascript/jQuery were all used.

And to answer your question; JBooth is not me, he is my cousin. :D

Here’s some quick iPhone snapshots of the post and business cards I designed for saratagaloa.com.

I love my printer.

SmartRetailing is a web site from McKesson to reach out to it’s Independent Pharmacy partners; to provide news and tips on how to grow their companies.
The design was done by the team at McKesson. A Wordpress theme was then installed following the basic design. The lead designer fleshed out the layout and I then fixed up all the CSS to match the design documents (font colors, size, and rollovers, image placement, margins, and more). I then placed many of the articles and pictures.
It resizes for mobile as well. Mobile was initiated, installed, and fixed in CSS, by myself.

Front page redesign for Cyclonix.

Cyclonix is a trade show booth design firm that is stretching into providing a one stop shop for all a brands needs. They needed a new website to reflect that change. This is the stop gap between the old site (which is accessible at the next navigation level down) and a complete redesign to be done end of summer.

Design done by the team at Cyclonix. All HTML/CSS/Flash programming by me.

*update: the client has now moved their entire site to a Pinterest page. I will post this on my servers soon.

Homepage banners designed for CalCPA.

I designed the banners for the homepage as well as the “member” page (not shown).

I also implemented the Flash slideshow. It’s a dynamic slideshow that detects your Flash capability and if it is not there (such as and iPhone or iPad) it will downgrade the plugin to Javascript. It also has support for SEO (which I also implemented) Check it out here - www.getcu3r.com.
